seanmc1114 Posted May 18, 2020 Share #4504 Posted May 18, 2020 Another veteran of the 474th Infantry Regiment. Note he is wearing the ribbons for the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with one campaign star and the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with either four or five campaign stars. He most likely served with the 1st Special Service Force on Kiska in the Aleutian Islands and later in Italy and France before being transferred to the 474th. Also note that he is wearing a campaign star on the ribbon of his World War II Victory Medal which was sometimes done unofficially to denote foreign service. Note the double enlisted collar insignia and rank chevrons. Oddly and interestingly enough shoulder patches were authorized for wear on the Dress Blue coat throughout most of the 50s, I say most because they may have rendered unauthorized by say 1958-59. The officer above , Lt Col Clarence Drye was CO of the 1st Battalion 3rd Infantry in 1955. Elvis around 1959, no more shoulder patches.

seanmc1114 Posted May 27, 2020 Share #4519 Posted May 27, 2020 Brigadier General Kenneth C. Leur wearing the 193rd Infantry Brigade SSI with AIRBORNE tab. Presumably he would be the brigade commander, so he would not be attached to any kind of LRRP unit and the brigade itself was not airborne. Leur was the commander of the brigade from 1979 till sometime in 1982, early 82, why the AIRBORNE Tab? Maybe worn for affinity with those jump units of the brigade?
