PATCHRAT Posted February 22, 2020 Share #4401 Posted February 22, 2020 The patch with U.S. Army above the Liberty Bell was AUTHORIZED 7 /60 -3 /65 The patch without U.S. Army above was AUTHORIZED 3/65 - 1/67 The tabs normally seen with the patch without the US ARMY above were Authorized 7/60- 3/65 which is odd since those dates correspond with the larger patch with US Army above. Source: Authorized Shoulder Sleeve Insignia of the US Army, Chris Aleck 2019 ;; I'm sure there was over lap Wow that's got to be it, a variant right, we've so far only seen the ones with no top like that, worn without a ARMY Tab or after 1965 with the Tab, or what's supposed to have a Tab, sometimes these are seen being worn after 1965 without the Tab, see posts # 534 ,# 1382 and # 2442. 12A54 Posted February 22, 2020 Share #4402 Posted February 22, 2020 This soldier of the 52nd Ordnance Group appears to have had quite an interesting career. Combat Infantryman Badge, Explosive Ordnance Disposal Badge and Soldier's Medal. ... Mensink received the Soldiers Medal, the highest honor a soldier can receive for an act of valor in a non-combat situation, for his actions at a Birmingham, Ala., hospital when he removed a live grenade from a mans leg. patches Posted February 23, 2020 Share #4406 Posted February 23, 2020 I see at least three different styles of fatigue shirts. Yes indeed, the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Patterns, typical of the mid 66 period, right before the OD Name tape ordered to be worn in the summer of 66, but not thoroughly implemented all at once. the 67 I put with the date of photo I put might be a stretch, as really by early 67, OD NAME tapes would be much more prevalent if not virtually standard. patches Posted February 26, 2020 Share #4421 Posted February 26, 2020 Found this new online photo of Actor William Windom in WWII, a Paratrooper with the 508th PIR, here he's still stateside under the Airborne Command, not sure when it was taken, summer right as he's in Khakis, summer of 43 or 44. no other information though on when he was in the unit. 1943 to D-Day or after D-Day, Holland or arrived as a replacement after Holland etc, but never the less he did see action with the 82nd that's certain.
