Rats of Tobruk Posted November 24, 2019 Share #4279 Posted November 24, 2019 I found this picture with the following description on the 2nd Armored Division facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/pages/2nd-Armored-in-Europe/230324890387541 "This is my grandfather Jeff Daemen. After his hometown of Maastricht was liberated, he didn't hesitate and joined the US 2nd Armored Division as a American Red Cross volunteer. He did more then this and traveled along with the 2nd Armored Division until the end of the war. The insignia's you see are his original ones that he is wearing in the pictures. The 4 stars on the bottom are General Clark's stars. I am very proud of my grandfather." Great studio portrait of your grandfather seanmc1114. seanmc1114 Posted November 24, 2019 Share #4281 Posted November 24, 2019 Does anyone else have interesting WW2 Red Cross photos with patches in action? Photo courtesy of seanmc1114. 2nd Armored Division.Red Cross~2.jpg Check out this picture and story. The officer giving the Hitler salute in the foreground was in charge of the POW exchange for the Germans. Andrew Gerow Hodges, the American Red Cross representative in the dark uniform in the center, set up the prisoner exchange in Brittany in November 1944. Pvt. Harry Glixon of Sarasota, Fla. was a member of the 301st Infantry Regiment, 94th Division of the 3rd Army who was exchanged by the enemy. https://donmooreswartales.com/2010/05/12/harry-glixon/
seanmc1114 Posted November 24, 2019 Share #4282 Posted November 24, 2019 Here's another photo with some female Red Cross members and a female member of the First Army, probably a nurse, in the background. Based on their dress and inflatable life preservers they're wearing, they are probably in England waiting to go to France soon after D-Day or else just newly arrived in France. Captainofthe7th Posted November 24, 2019 Share #4283 Posted November 24, 2019 Here's an interesting one that I don't think has been posted. This is from Les Belges en Corée by Lt. Gen. Albert Crahay. This shows an unknown American officer wearing the USMA West Point SSI as a prior service patch. Rob
seanmc1114 Posted November 24, 2019 Share #4284 Posted November 24, 2019 Pacific Stars & Stripes. I'm not sure if this being worn as a combat patch or if they were normally worn on the right sleeve with another SSI on the left sleeve.

patches Posted December 2, 2019 Share #4289 Posted December 2, 2019 197th Infantry Brigade with AIRBORNE tab. This medic served with Company A 75th Infantry (Ranger) from 1969 to 1971 after returning from Vietnam. Sean a error there, probably the caption for foto. The Alpha Rangers were not in Vietnam but a Ft Carson Colorado, remember they were still assigned to V Corps in West Germany even though they were stateside. No CMB we're seeing Hmm he should have it right. Too bad he doesn't wear DIs, as a Jump Qualified trooper in this unit, he was in one off the brigade's Infantry Battalion's Charlie Airborne's, in 1971-72 the 3rd Bn 5th Inf, 4th Bn 10th Inf, and the 4th Bn 20th Inf. This particular soldier's profile on togetherweserved.com indicates he served in Company A 75th Infantry from 1969 to 1971. I have searched that site and found others who indicate they served with Company A 75th Infantry during that time period at Fort Benning. The information seems to indicate that when the various Ranger companies were redesignated as companies of the 75th Infantry on 1 February 1969, Company A became the LRP unit for V Corps and that it served at both Fort Benning and later Fort Hood where it was deactivated in 1974. Some information I am seeing indicates the company was attached to the 197th Infantry Brigade at Benning.

Now that was my error, yes Ft Hood then, it was B Co that was still attached /assigned to a West Germany based Corps VII, at Lewis, And I don't know why, but I thought the 193rd Inf Bde in Panama he was in Uptight and distracted I guess today, so forget all that I wrote But now On this guy we see now he was an Infantryman, and in Vietnam as such, in the 2/327th Inf, 101st Abn Div, where's does the Medic MOS come in, and since he was an 11B in Combat, no CIB, what about a beret too now that we're thinking, didn't they wear a Black Beret And no wonder I was having trouble looking for his oval, I was searching the 193rd Inf Bde's jup units. this is the one I think he's wearing A Co 75th Rangers.
