patches Posted June 10, 2017 Share #2726 Posted June 10, 2017 I Corps, Zebra Club, Fort Shafter Hawaii Reactivated for service in World War II, the corps took command of divisions in the south Pacific, leading US and Australian forces as they pushed the Japanese army out of New Guinea. It went on to be one of the principal leading elements in the Battle of Luzon, liberating the Philippines. It then took charge as one of the commanding headquarters in the occupation of Japan. Deployed to Korea at the start of the Korean War, the corps was one of three corps that remained in the country for the entire conflict, commanding US, British, and South Korean forces through three years of back-and-forth campaigns against North Korean and Chinese forces Is this a reverse image (we see Eye Corps as a combat patch)? plus what's the date of photo, looks WWII? patches Posted June 14, 2017 Share #2735 Posted June 14, 2017 FYI These and several other photos I posted already and will post in other forums are from the 1961 Howitzer (The Point's yearbook). I got it the other day, so if any members need something looked up from that class, don't hesitate to ask, I'll be more than glad to look around for you. The ROCK worn as a pocket patch on GIs of the 2nd Battle Group 503rd Airborne Infantry 82nd Airborne Division. Hmm Patch Kings, sure why not. seanmc1114 Posted June 17, 2017 Share #2736 Posted June 17, 2017 36th Infantry Division SSI worn with an AIRBORNE tab by a member of Company B 1st Battalion (Airborne) 143rd Infantry in Afghanistan in 2012. There's nothing unusual about the 36th SSI being worn with the tab as the patch previously represented the 36th Airborne Brigade as well as the 71st Airborne Brigade. What I do find a little fascinating is that even though the 36th is traditionally associated with the Texas National Guard, this particular company is from the Alaska National Guard and Company C is from the Rhode Island National Guard. http://www.nationalguard.mil/News/Article-View/Article/575874/afghanistan-alaska-army-national-guard-members-play-pivotal-role-in-afghanistan/
seanmc1114 Posted June 17, 2017 Share #2737 Posted June 17, 2017 297th Battlefield Surveillance Brigade of the Alaska National Guard. Image of the full color SSI is shown as well as the approved DUI for the brigade which is the former DUI for the 207th Infantry Group. It's a shame that so many of these newly approved SSI may never be worn on a uniform as full color versions.

seanmc1114 Posted June 20, 2017 Share #2750 Posted June 20, 2017 Here's one I don't understand at all. The commanding officer and Command Sergeant Major of the 3rd Brigade 10th Mountain Division are both seen in their official photographs posed in front of a flag bearing the SSI of the 10th Mountain Division. Yet each of them is wearing the SSI of the 36th Infantry Division. If you click on the attached link for the 3rd Brigade's official website, it shows an insignia including the arrowhead device of the 36th with a MOUNTAIN tab. Plus, even though the page obviously refers to the unit as the 3rd Brigade 10th Mountain Division, the brigade history on the page is for the 4th Brigade 10th Mountain Division. http://www.jrtc-polk.army.mil/4-10/Patriot_History.html However, if you click on the links for any of the subordinate units of the brigade and go to the photographs of their commanders, they are wearing the SSI of the 10th Mountain Division. But on top of that, if you go to the unit's Facebook page, all of the photos seems to show the members wearing the SSI of the 36th with many wearing the 36th SSI as a combat patch and others wearing the 10th Division SSI as a combat patch. https://www.facebook.com/pg/10thMTNPatriots/photos/?ref=page_internal
