This is a picture of a member of the recon unit of the 272nd Infantry regiment, 69th Infantry Division.

 

Note the bloody axe patch above the pocket and the 69th Infantry Division Shoulder patch

I am doing research on a relative who was with the 69th, 272 inf regt KIA on 21 April 45. Buried in Margraten, Cemetery

Great photo, of note, these troops wear the Discharge Badge on OD on their Khaki shirts, one always expects the Khaki version to be seen on Khaki shirts.

You know that one guy sitting in the center playing the ukulele looks like the guy in the 1951 movie, remember him? the Hawaiian Singer/Dancer, he gets wounded in the Alsace, it may be him, a few actual vets of the 442 were used as main cast actors.
