Siamundo Posted May 23, 2010 #1 Posted May 23, 2010 Wondering if anyone might be able to put a ballpark vintage or date on this 34th Tactical Fighter Squadron patch. Possibly Philippine made but just a guess. Thank you for your help.
gwb123 Posted May 23, 2010 #2 Posted May 23, 2010 I know I am just looking at a photo, but I am wondering if this is Thai made from their time in Korat flying F-105's. http://34tfsthuds.us/history.html Along with some history, there is a great photo section on this website.
Siamundo Posted May 23, 2010 Author #3 Posted May 23, 2010 Hello Gil, thank you for the information. I too had wondered the same thing. I do have another 34th TFS which is Thai made and is very similar although the embroidery is different and it is a little bit larger. I don't know how well this photo below will work, but I have placed the two patches side by side in hopes their embroidery styles will show. The known Thai made patch is on the right.

My suspicion is that the patch initially posted is an excellent repro of the original version. I guess even the Thais are into the repro game, using the same style and machines they used during the war. Patch Johnson
vintageproductions Posted May 23, 2010 #5 Posted May 23, 2010 This one is Philippine made. These patches were available at Clark in the late 80's and early 90's, when I was over there buying out insignia shops.
gwb123 Posted May 23, 2010 #6 Posted May 23, 2010 Interesting. Digging a little deeper, it does not look like the 34th TFS was ever at Clark. However, as I am sure Bob will attest, the shops over there were probably making patches for USAF units all over the world. Also, after looking closer at the back, that does look more like Philippine embroidery. The reverse stitching is just not as dense as the Thai version and that would be typical. Interesting item. Thanks for sharing.
