Black (?) beret worn by a member of either the 2nd Battalion 73rd Armor or 2nd Battalion 77th Armor of the 2nd Infantry Division in Korea during the 70's. Note the jungle fatigue pants and jungle boots.

He's an officer and is wearing only his rank without any kind of Flash it would seem, Cpt Bars.

This master sergeant is wearing the Intelligence & Security Command SSI with a maroon beret bearing the Special Operations Command - Army Element flash and DUI. I can't make out the DUI on his eppaulette.

On his epaulets.

He was likely a linguist who had been granted crew wings due to his job listening to intercepts from the back of a Huey.

Thanks for the ID on the DUI. Any idea of he connection between the Special Operations Command beret and the SSI?

Beret envy used to be a common thing in the Army. Some people wanted each branch to have their own, others just combat arms. Everyone loved them until everyone had to wear one. Now everyone hates the beret. The beret is probably going to be phased out as the Army "Pinks and Greens" come online.

Then everyone will want berets again.

Airborne artilleryman of the 1st Cavalry Division, probably immediately prior to deployment to Vietnam in July 1965. The 2nd Battalion 19th Artillery was the artillery battalion of the 1st on jump status, but I don't think that's the DUI he's wearing.

I think he's still wearing the 81st Artillery DI for whatever reason, it was the 6th Battalion 81st Artillery of the 11th Air Assault Division (Test) that was reflagged as the 2nd Battalion (Airborne) 19th Artillery in July of 65.

Here's one more curios thing, as he's wearing a French Rope, neither the 19th Arty or the 81st Arty earned one. Me thinks now that perhaps this GI was a very recent transfer from the 82nd Abn Div to bulk up the Cav just before it shipped out, you got that Armed Forces e\Expeditionary Medal ribbon there, the DOM REP right, but why keep the rope on after he had the cav path sewn on right, still curious as to the DI now, could still be the 81st's? if so why not the 19th's?, the Black beret at this very early date while the Cav was still at Benning is also one more curiosity.

You find some doozy's Sean

Here's another one of those berets with the upside down flash worn by Medical Corps personnel. I believe the DUI is for the Medical Center & School.

The crest is from the Academy of Health Sicence.

That's what it's called now, not sure on the date when the Ft Sam establishment was redesginated, but back in the old days it was at first the Medical Field Training School then the U.S. Army Medical Department Center and School

Here's two examples one from he Vietnam War and one believed from the mid 1970s, say 1976-77 with both beret and flash and the DI.

PFC Steven R. Segura, probably the summer of 1968, Segura, now a Spec 4, killed in action in Vietnam on March 1, 1969 25th Medical Battalion 25th Infantry Division.

And the one from the 70s. (note no award of the National Defense Service Medal dates this past 1975).

Green beret worn by an NCO of the 66th Military Intelligence Group (The designation of the unit between 2002 and 2008 when this soldier served. Before and after those dates, the unit was designated the 66th Military Intelligence Brigade.). Note the soldier is wearing a Special Forces tab and a 1st Special Forces DUI on a flash for Special Forces personnel in non-special operating units.

Red beret with unknown device worn by an engineer of the 2nd Support Brigade. Note camouflaged face and glasses.

That there is a BW Beret, I think the Red one worn by Artillery, and Combat Support Corps.

cap badge???, and this unit was in Germany, even more the odder apart from the face paint. (Can't delete/remove the Paratrooper beret image).

Black (?) beret worn by an MP in the 70's. The DUI on his bib looks like something associated with the California National Guard (bear and setting sun)

The same thing is on his cap in metal form. Another one for you to shop around for an ID, maybe in Patches.

Skysoldier80

When were the colors of the South Vietnamese flag added back to the 5th Special Forces Group flash?

I believe in Jan 2016 (may be off)
