USMC Flannel Shirt?

Recommended Posts

I bought this the morning because I thought it is a USMC winter service shirt, but there is something not right about it. I have more than 10 WWII Marine winter service shirts, but this one is different. The color and buttons match my other shirts, but the pocket flaps are not as sharply edged (scalloped?) and there is no white placket lining. There is also no label or size stamping except for one which reads "ALL WOOL/DO NOT WASH WITH HOT WATER". It looks like it may have been issued because near the label are smudged ink stampings.

I am not sure if I described this correctly but I have some pictures to help out.

Thanks

I don't believe it's a USMC winter service flannel shirt. I own two of them, both unissued, and they don't look like your shirt for the reasons you describe plus the color doesn't look quite right although that might be the pics. As for what it is......don't have a clue.

The color is right on with my WWII shirts, the pictures distort the colors. I am beginning to think it may be a Korean-Era shirt because of the pocket flaps. I believe the pocket flaps were changed around that time and I have seen many khaki shirts with these types of flaps, but no flannel shirts. Still unable to figure this one out.

Well, the only thing for certain is that it is private purchase shirt, not issue.

It is Navy/Marine style with those pockets.

Private purchase shirts like this one and many others were more common than many think, and it could be ww2 to Korea.
