Lee Ragan Posted May 6, 2010 Share #2 Posted May 6, 2010 Yes, it's a "Branch-of-service", chevron and these were used (unofficially), thru WWII. These were more often worn in the 1930's and were made for other branches as well such as Signal Corps and Medical. Air Corps seems to be the most common of the branch chevrons and were used for a longer period than the others. Another point: all these branch chevrons were PX private purchase and not issued. Beside the khaki type you show here, they were also made in the silver/grey embroidered on dark blue twill type and the green stripes embroidered on blue wool type chevrons. All were made for PFC thru Master Sergeant. The one you show is an Air corps Corporal.
GIl Sanow Posted May 6, 2010 Share #3 Posted May 6, 2010 Bill Emerson, who wrote THE book on chevrons, has a nice article in the latest issue og ASMIC Trading Post on these. G
