S McKibben Posted May 5, 2010 #1 Posted May 5, 2010 I really dont know much about USAF patches but picked up 200-300 of them today and almost all are different. So was wondering what patches in your opinions are the harder to find or what ones are your favorites. There is a bunch I have never seen before that are very cool. Dont be shy let me know what you think is cool. Thanks Shaun
Lee Ragan Posted May 5, 2010 #4 Posted May 5, 2010 The harder ones to find date from the Korean War era thru the 50's. Fighter Interceptor Squadron patches, particularly from this era are highly sought after. Even color squadron, group or wing patches from as late as the 70's are hard to find as many units from that era are long gone. If you want the skinney on USAF patches, go over to www.usafpatches.com and you'll learn a lot. That's a very nice batch of patches you have there!
Johnny Signor Posted May 11, 2010 #5 Posted May 11, 2010 Way to many to take pics of each. Hey Dagger , you got a fairly nice haul there, most look fairly recent ,but even so I see some nice pieces there ! The harder patches to find "usually" are the older 50-60's era types like Fighter Interceptor, Strategic Recon, Older Air Refueling, Aircraft types such as the F-100 and Century series, but of course those with the BIG BUCKS it's not a porblem all they have to do is go to an ASMIC type show and they can pick em up easy. If you're an average type collector and don't want to spend a lot of $$$ stay with the more recent era patches like you have there, they can generally be picked up between $1.00 to $5.00 each and some dealers will give you a better price overall if you buy a good amount of them, one note don't pay over $1.00 for any of the subdued patch types ,they are usually not very collectable or liked by most and if you try to sell them you have a time getting more than $1.00 each for them. Good luck with your collection you've got a great start !!!! Johnny
Misanthropic_Gods Posted May 11, 2010 #6 Posted May 11, 2010 [EDIT] Belay My Last....I thought you were asking something else [EDIT} This isnt mine, but it is in the museum at Chanute Air Base he is Gremlin Gus, the FIRST distinctive unit Patch made for the Civil Air Patrol. He was designed Disney Studios in 1943 for Squadron 611-11 in Chicago, Ill. It is the ONLY known patch of its type in existence.
Teamski Posted May 11, 2010 #7 Posted May 11, 2010 Nice haul for sure! I concur with the others..... -Ski
