AirMechanic Posted April 30, 2010 Share #1 Posted April 30, 2010 I just picked this up the other day. I took some quick pics before the sun went down. I'm hoping someone on the message board could give me some info on this, as I have never seen one before. This flight suit is a USN CFN-24-C flight suit. I believe it is from WWII. Can anyone tell me who exactly wore these? Is this a WWII issue suit? Does anyone know a ballpark figure on the value? Thanks!
pararaftanr2 Posted May 1, 2010 Share #2 Posted May 1, 2010 Hi AirMechanic, The M-456 series was the Navy's electrically heated flight clothing from pre-WWII through the post WWII era. The earlier suits were made of goatskin leather. Post war, the leather was replaced by poplin or nylon as on your suit. There were attaching points for electrically heated gloves, boots and, on the chest, for an oxygen mask heater. Here s a view from Naval Aviation News: During WWII, the leather suits were often worn in exposed positions in patrol bombers and by night fighter pilots. Best regards, Paul
