mach1derful Posted April 27, 2010 Share #1 Posted April 27, 2010 I didn't want to have to drop $600+ on a complete and servicable CW era holster, so I got a deal on this one that has been painted brown at some point. Perhaps a pathetic attempt to pass it off as confederate. I haven't tried to remove any paint yet. Looking for assistance on this one too. I'm thinking some acetone or goo gone with a soft dremel brush. The leather underneath is in good shape with minimal flaking and cracking. If the leather was in poorer shape I would just leave it alone, but it's a great holster and deserves a shot at restoration. Anyone have any experience doing a project like this? ChrisNZ Posted April 27, 2010 Share #2 Posted April 27, 2010 First thing i would try is i would stick it in a bucket of hot water let it soak and then use a soft brush, that will do the least amount of damage to the leather, if that does nothing try a bit of sugar soap (or get some liquid soap and mix some sawdust in it) if that doesn't remove it try Isopropyl Alcohol, but that would be a last resort, if you use a chemical it could make the paint fluid again and leave you with a big mess. svt40 Posted May 10, 2010 Share #3 Posted May 10, 2010 Saddle soap, a soft tooth brush and a bath tub with warm water in it will work wonders.
