63 RECON Posted August 4, 2015 Share #51 Posted August 4, 2015 That is a cool story Jack, thought the burlap helmet cover was more of a Korean War thing. That only must have been until you got the Mitchell covers yeah? Be cool if you had a pic.

That only must have been until you got the Mitchell covers yeah? Be cool if you had a pic. Here are some pictures from John D. Foulk, the CO of the 325th at the time that show covers like what Jack is talking about (Sorry they are pictures of pictures, but they are in a frame):

patches Posted July 24, 2016 Share #60 Posted July 24, 2016 Here's some Para Camo covers from the Korean War, a M4 Howitzer tank from I think either the 17th Infantry Tank Company or the 73rd Tank Battalion (Not sure, don't have a book handy, but believe this battalion was equip with the Pershing), 7th Division on the outskirts of Seoul Sept 50, the Americans and their KATUSAS are of the 17th Infantry. Click on for enlarged view As we see the two men in the right foreground, most likely both officers have make-ship nets over theirs, with the one on the right with what appears to be the camo band over his cover? He's got the liner strap over the rim, but it looks like he's got a band too right?. While that U.S. BAR Gun man in the background and the two KATUSAS doesn't have either, just the covers alone, without liner straps over the rim, at least the U.S. GI doesn't at any rate. Ronnie Posted July 25, 2016 Share #62 Posted July 25, 2016 Cool. Look how the trooper on the left in post #61 has his liner and pot configured. That's a neat way to connect the two. Ronnie

Ronnie That is neat! The other guy with his head bowed seems to have the same configuration. What kind of jumpsuit or uniform is the guy on the left wearing? It kind of looks like WWII USMC camo.... Ronnie Posted July 25, 2016 Share #64 Posted July 25, 2016 It must be Rick. The photo is taken several years after the war and correct me if I'm wrong but we didn't make any new Camo like that in the fifties...did we? Ronnie

63 RECON Posted July 26, 2016 Share #66 Posted July 26, 2016 Looks like the guy in the foreground is as well. you can just see a little bit of cam under and in front of his chin. Plus in the other pics there is another guy wearing camo. could they be early SF? also to note is that the guys in the camo uniforms also have their faces cammed up. patches Posted July 27, 2016 Share #71 Posted July 27, 2016 Hey did the Marines aboard the Battleships and Cruisers off Normandy have their Camo Covers unique to the Corps? Don't think ships detachments of WWII had them issued, would this be correct?
e19 Posted July 27, 2016 Share #72 Posted July 27, 2016 Great observation! Quite possibly early SF.... The pic is listed as being taken in 1953. There's a trooper with a 101st SSI, which was stationed at Camp Breckenridge, KY, in '53. The two SFGs (10th & 77th) that existed during '53 were both at FtBragg, NC.
