Harrythepicker Posted April 11, 2010 Share #1 Posted April 11, 2010 This is one of the items I found while out pickin yesterday. I must say that the artwork on the reverse side of the medal is outstanding with the oil well scene. Oil City, Pa. was the center for early oil production in the U.S. and has a rich history. This medal is maker marked J.K. Davison Phila. Do you like it? .............Harry C

bayonetman Posted April 11, 2010 Share #5 Posted April 11, 2010 Very nice! They really did nice artwork on these medals. My great-great grandfather had one of these. He was very active in the GAR and lived near Emlenton, not too far south of Oil City down the Allegheny river. Unfortunately the medal has descended down a different branch of the family and I have not been able to get it although I have seen it. Wish I had found this one. KevinBeyer Posted April 11, 2010 Share #6 Posted April 11, 2010 I think most G.A.R. related badges are quite eye catching. There is a lost quality in these medals that you just don't see today. I am not a picker, but seeing things like this makes me want to be one. Although, I'd never make a profit as I would keep everything I found. :-) Kevin
