Does anyone know of a reference book for Air Force unit patches, with pictures? I used to have a spiral-bound book that was text only, only listed mottos by unit. Want to find one with pictures/sketches.

The biggest selection can be found online at www.usafpatches.com....a virtual encyclopaedia!

Jerome Polder had his series of books out years ago, but those have vanished from book shelves. I didn't really like them as they weren't too explanitory and each book cost around $26 each. I also have the motto books you mention, and they at least help with ID's. I agree with Ian that USAFpatches.com is the best available source of informatin around....that is when the gallery comes back on-line.

IMHO, the field of USAF patch collecting is too vast to contain within books without focusing on a single area.

Thanks to both on you for your replies. I am anxious to see the patches on USAFpatches.com, too bad the timing has it that the gallery is off-line (was waiting to see if the gallery would come back on-line, still waiting...).

By the way, I have decided to concentrate on a small area of USAF patch collecting this time, on Communication/Information System Squadrons/Groups, the earlier units numbered in the 1700's thru 2100's. I was in a few of those units in the 1980's. I tried to start a collection of just USAF patches years ago, but was just too overwhelmed with all the patches out there, and without some sort of reference...

Thanks again for the comments.

Now that the gallery at USAFpatches.com is back up, I can see why this came so highly recommended. It is a great reference for US Air Force Patches. And now seeing SO many patches, I can understand why there isn't much in publication in this area - too much for any one book to hold! Highly recommended for the Air Force patch collector!

You got it. The great thing about the gallery is the search function. If you have a patch with a motto, you have a good chance of finding it in there.
