Siamundo Posted April 8, 2010 #1 Posted April 8, 2010 I recently acquired this patch and was hoping to get a little feedback from other members. It is a large fully embroidered patch, POSSIBLY Japanese or Asian made. In trying to research the 563rd Bombardment Squadron (Heavy) online it seems like this unit designation was discontinued in the late 1950's but the patch definitely is not that old. Does anyone have any information or opinions of vintage, or where and when worn? Thank you for your assistance.
mortaydc60 Posted April 8, 2010 #2 Posted April 8, 2010 My quick impression is that it is a repro and was not worn but made for collecters. I am sure the patch exists but this is not of the proper period. Mort
Siamundo Posted April 8, 2010 Author #3 Posted April 8, 2010 Thank you for your opinion. I too had thought about either a recent copy or possibly a reunion piece, but I did want to get some additional input.
Johnny Signor Posted April 8, 2010 #4 Posted April 8, 2010 It only lasted as a Heavy Bomb squadron into 1947 by the "Official" USAF records and was recently a Fighter Squadron with a totally different emblem so most likley this is a Reunion patch for the WW2/post WW2 guys. Johnny
