usmcega Posted April 4, 2010 Author Share #4 Posted April 4, 2010 Just by looking at the trunk I know a few places he had bin from Okinawa Japan to Camp Pendleton and then stationed in Camp Lejeune NC. It has his home address of Durham NC on the side also. I would like to know if he maybe won any high medals. Silver star,Purple Heart etc?
Stinger Gunner USMC Posted April 4, 2010 Share #5 Posted April 4, 2010 From the VA grave database: IRVINE, ALBERT THOMAS US MARINE CORPS DATE OF BIRTH: 01/09/1925 DATE OF DEATH: 04/03/2001 BURIED AT: MAPLEWOOD CEMETERY 1621 DUKE UNIVERSITY RD DURHAM, NC 27701 He was 18 in 1943, so I wouldn't be surprised if you find out he was a WWII veteran, that six digit service number on the side of the trunk sure looks WWII era to me... Since his service file is not archival yet and the veteran is no longer alive you can request his file for free Also, it appears that his family is active on Ancestry.com. There are photos of him on that site. It may be worth trying to email the person who posted the photos to see if they are willing to share any information

I'd be interested to learn what happened to his gear. He had a long, distinguished career in the marines.
