Guest Alaskan Scout Posted March 10, 2010 Share #1 Posted March 10, 2010 I posted this in the other Sleeping bag section but it remain buried so Ill repost it here .. I aquired two sleeping bags today...20$ for the set...One was easy to ID after a search for the tags..It was Labled Arctic Mountain sleep sack and Dated 1943. It has the cover & a few repars but other then the aged fade of the fabric they are both in great condition.... Here is the M43 sleep sack...Nothing fancy to figure out here...... Here is the one Im stuck on..I looked @ the manuals pic in this thread but it says nothing about a nylon/rayon inner bag....Unless its some silky material i dont know about and not a synthetic.. The inner shell...The tag is worse beyond reading....It has ties to roll it up.. Here you can see how its a Nylon/Rayon Outter Shell....Heavier material and unzips to almost a blanket....No outter ties for rolling up and no lables
craig_pickrall Posted March 10, 2010 Share #2 Posted March 10, 2010 On the bag that you are unsure of, does it have a full length zipper? If so then it is a M1949 model. It replaced the WW2 version that was a mummy bag with half length zipper. That is probably the most common GI bag you will find.
Guest Alaskan Scout Posted March 10, 2010 Share #3 Posted March 10, 2010 Hi and thanks for your reply.. No it has a half zipper..Half just like the 1943 sack does...Is it supose to go inside the 1943 sleep sack? then both of them inside the outter watterproof outter shell? The only full zipper would be the huge one that opens the bag to a quilt like blanket...if the one i was unsure about goes with the 1943 one and its shell what is the huge one for? a third layer of warmth? craig_pickrall Posted March 10, 2010 Share #4 Posted March 10, 2010 This is the info from both the 1943 and 46 QM Catalogs that cover sleep gear. Hopefully you can figure it out from this.
