GreggG Posted February 2, 2013 Share #31 Posted February 2, 2013 New additions to the collection: 1907 - Decatur, Illinois It identifies Edwin H. Buck as Department Commander 1906 This was a pleasant surprise seeing Edwin Buck's medal. I have one of his original "Commander Dept. of Illinois, GAR" business cards so it's nice to be able to put a face to his name. Thanks.

KevinBeyer Posted April 20, 2013 Author Share #35 Posted April 20, 2013 These two additional badges came from a collection of about 20 that were just sold on eBay. I needed seven of them to add to my collection, but I was only lucky enough to obtain these two. The hunt goes on! Kevin

KevinBeyer Posted December 1, 2016 Author Share #49 Posted December 1, 2016 I find it interesting that after 1935 (the 69th Annual Encampment) the badge maker stopped putting the likeness of the Department Commander on the obverse of the pendant. It is not known to me if this change in design was due to cost, availability of current likenesses for the Dept Commanders, or some other reason. Does anyone have any idea why this change was made? SARGE Posted December 2, 2016 Share #50 Posted December 2, 2016 Unknown to me as well Kevin. AT least they print the Department Commander's name. Neat additions BTW!
