gwb123 Posted June 4, 2012 Share #76 Posted June 4, 2012 Anywhere from the mid-1950s to I believe the early 1970's. MAAG Formosa predates our involvement in Vietnam.

PATCHRAT Posted November 20, 2015 Share #80 Posted November 20, 2015 What year did they issue the metal version? Has anyone seen a photo with the metal one? I bought a badge like the one you show in Korea in 96. I believe yours is Korean Made. The shop I found it in had several pocket badges but when I asked about them and other insignia the shop keeper replied "very old no use no more" he was also not making/selling insignia anymore. He was doing unit coins and trophy type stuff. So not a real answer to your question but I would bet the badge stopped being used in the late 70's early 80's. According to Aleck book the SSI stopped being used in 1984.
smwinter207 Posted November 20, 2015 Share #81 Posted November 20, 2015 I'm surprised this is not US made. I would have thought it was officially handed out and not sold in shops. Thanks for the great information!
firefighter Posted November 21, 2015 Share #82 Posted November 21, 2015 This subdued one is still on the sleeve on a 1971 dated helicopter pilot's nomex shirt. A 1st Infantry Division combat patch is on the right sleeve. The Thailand Air Force is still attached to a 1973 dated flight suit. I love the subdued MAAG patch. Never seen one before. I know the coup patch is Vietnamese. Thanks S
