kiaiokalewa Posted March 7, 2010 Share #22 Posted March 7, 2010 When I was a pre-teen my Dad was part of the AG/GS at JUSMAG-K during the early-mid 70's. There was an effort on my Dad's part to get the cross bred PROVMAAG-KMAG approved by the IOH. The CG was going nuts and wanted a SSI to be worn by his staff. He soon learned that not all service members were able to wear SSI due to their service's insignia restrictions. So metal hanging pocket badges of this design were issued to all of his staff and it of course were only locally approved. The IOH repeatly rejected the efforts by my Dad to get this metal badge and its cloth form approved. What further drove Gen. Street nuts was that these metal badges were not worn consistently on the left side pocket like his Army staff members. The Air Force and Marine staff member had to wear them on the right pockets due to other badging requirements according to my Dad. Gen. Street was frustrated as hell but eventually won a battle to get a patch approved for his boys. As for PROVMAAG-KMAG patch combination, these were never worn by the JUSMAG-K staff member with the exception of the subdue one shown. This one was made especially for Gen. Street Birthday and everyone attended his party in their fatigues. This is well documented in one of the annual JUSMAG-K photo year books in my Dad's collection. The colored patch of this design were only worn by the KATUSA drivers on their red baseball caps which is also very well documented in the yearbooks. I also recall seeing them on the JUSMAG-K Baseball Team members caps as well. The Christmas patch was given to me by Santa Claus at the Chief's Mess when I was 10 years old and man was it a party. Speaking of parties JUSMAG-K were seasoned professionals at this task and many where thrown at the great Chiefs Mess. Somewhere in my files I have an image of a PROVMAAG patch that has a JUSMAG-K tab below it as one piece much like those Laos, Thailand and Vietnam examples. This was probably a creation of Gen. Streets prior to his PROVMAAG-KMAG combination but the Bell and Eagle design with the addition of the JUSMAG-K tab was actually authorized after much correspondence between the IOH and my Dad at the time. Siamundo Posted March 7, 2010 Share #23 Posted March 7, 2010 This subdued one is still on the sleeve on a 1971 dated helicopter pilot's nomex shirt. A 1st Infantry Division combat patch is on the right sleeve. The Thailand Air Force is still attached to a 1973 dated flight suit.

Siamundo Posted March 7, 2010 Share #25 Posted March 7, 2010 An intersting KMAG that is all one piece which I think might be German made and one in bullion and silk.
