Tanks as Monuments / Displays

Recommended Posts

Beautifully restored & preserved M-24 Chaffee outside of US Army Museum, Fort Derussy, Honolulu (Waikiki), Hawaii

If you're ever on Oahu, this is an outstanding museum filled with weapons, medals & militaria. Not to be missed.

I may wander up to Schofield Barracks in a few weeks and shoot some of the Tanks on display up there.

General Albin F Irzyk was the commander of 8th Tank Battalion, 4th Armored Division (then Major).

He wrote a book called "He rode up front for Patton".

A very good person if I may say so.

June 7th of this past summer. I guess the paint was recent. I remember other pictures had a camo paint job. Not sure if this was just a primer or what, but it doesn't look very good.

Here is an M2A2 Light tank. This tank mounted twin .30 caliber machine guns. This particular tank was at Camp Shelby when I was there in 1991. Here is a Wikipedia website on the different models of the M2: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M2_Light_Tank

M-60 with camounflage scheme common in the 1970-80s. This tank was upgraded with the track that had seperate replaceable pads.

There are two M-47s in So. California, one in Barstow, Ca. in desert camouflage scheme that was applied to M48A5s and M-60s starting in the mid-1970s. The other example is at Los Alamitos Reserve Center, in front of the Headquarters 40th Infantry Div (MECH) CAARNG.

This is an M-60A3. You can tell by the flat sides on the turret. The "Slick 60" had a rounded similar to the M-48.

Rescued M-4 105 in iraq(ex iranian) now repainted as us!

342435605DafIdC_fs__Large_.jpg

Say what? Do you have a few more details on this? Is this something our troops "rescued" and repainted? I can't for the life of me imagine the Iraqis going to the trouble.

Lord only knows what else is buried in the deserts over there. Reminds me of those WWI French tanks they found in a bone yard in Afghanistan, which I understand have now been shipped back to the West.
