Bobgee,

There are two M-41 Walker Bulldog light tanks at the main entrance to Ft. Carson, Colorado (off of Hwy 115). Both are in excellent shape and are part of the static displays outside the 4ID (M) Military Museum.

Thanks for the info. Any pics? Bobgee

Hi,

Just dicovered this thread. I like it!

Here's my contribution:

This M4 is standing in front of the Omaha Beach Memorial Museum in Normandy. Instead of the more common olive drab colours this one has a nice patina (hmmm, I'm starting to sound like an antique dealer ).

While I was taking photos this PAK 43 88mm got dropped off after receiving a new coat of paint.

Since we're including howitzers and the like: this howitzer (which was recently restored) is at the Polish Legion of American Veterans Stefan Starzynski Post 55 in Salem, Massachusetts.

Here is a nice M-47 Tank in front of American Legion Post 416 located in St. Helen, MI. We passed by it and I turned around and checked it out on the way to a family reunion at a camp up on the Au Sable River in July 2016. My wife threw me a bone for 15 minutes. I threw down a $20 for the patrons to have a drink on this good old Texas tanker! I was a long way from home.

Hi 12thEngr, thanks for the fascinating shot of your fathers unit during WWII, love all the information in the photo, especially the closed cab GMC 353 trucks, I owned one of these back in the 1980's and for me it's the classic wartime GMC. Never liked the later war open cab GMC's with canvas roof they don't have the aesthetic look of the closed cab versions.

Hi everyone,

This is a M3A3 light tank standing outside the Le Grand Bunker museum in Ouistreham, Normandy. As far as I know this variant was not used by US troops in Europe but Commonwealth, French and Polish troops made extensive use of these vehicles.

post-32632-0-80778500-1502562925_thumb.jpg Thanks General. These closed cabs would have been irritating to get out of when nazi or Japanese planes showed up in the area!

Hi 12thengr, thanks for the additional photo, lovely trucks, would there be any shots of the field kitchen GMC's amongst your fathers photos, I have a friend with a fully fitted-out kitchen unit, all items contained in the rear are genuine US wartime pieces, including the stoves, utensils, post and pans . . . . . . . .

my truck back in 1984

I dont think this tank has been posted yet. My brother was in Euclid Ohio and sent these photos of an M103 heavy tank guarding the local library. He took some nice and clear photos but unfortunately the USMF image resizer distorts them some. Not a good idea to have overdue books at this library!

Here is a photo of an M103 Heavy Tank that is located in Pioneer Park in Nacogdoches, Texas. As a college student in the 1970s, we used to go and hang out near the tank and drink beer on occasion. Took this photo during a reunion in 2014.

Here is a photo of a M42 Duster located in front of the VFW in Corrigan, Texas. It could use a rehab, but it is stll a nice examle of the AA vehicle. It was armed with a fully automatic twin 40mm M2A1 Bofors cannon system. I know the M42 used the M41 chassis and was initially designed for an anti-aircraft role, but I am uncertain whether it was ever used in combat in that role. I know it was often used very effectively in an anti-personnel role against unarmored ground forces in Vietnam. I never served with units that were equipped wit the M42, but I was in many units that had the follow on to the M42, which was the M163 Vulcan Air Defense System (VADS) which was armed with the M61 Vulcan rotary cannon, which was pretty awesome.

Here's a photo of a sweet M60A1 Rise/Passive Main Battle Tank parked as a monument at the entrance to Camp Grayling, MI. This is the model tank that I cut my teeth on as a 2nd Lieutenant Armor Platoon Leader in the late 1970's. Great tank; loved the 105mm main gun and the M85 .50 cal commander's MG with telescopic sight. Back in those days, a unit could fire training and service rounds during gunnery which occurred two times per year. Good times. That tank required real skill on the part of the crew, with a coincidental range finder and no thermal imaging. Great experience growing up as a young man. There were some darn good NCOs that will killer gunners with that gun system.

Maybe you'll enjoy these two topics LT, related in a manner of speaking, feel free to add anything you like to them.

Here is a photo that was in a 1990's Texas state travel guide of an M-4 at Fort Hood that was somehow painted in the current camo scheme of the day. I am sure this has since been corrected.

Here is a nice M4A1 Sherman used as a monument in front of the American Legion Post #106 in Grayling, MI located at 106 S James St., Grayling, Michigan 49738. It is well-maintained and complete. The example here has the VVSS (Vertical Volute Spring Suspension) type suspension system, with standard track pads. It also features applique armor on the hull sides and extra armor plates for the radioman & driver positions. The tank has a welded upper front glacis and a cast lower front glacis bolted together.

Been trying to find period fotos of those Pershings that were on platforms around Ft Knox Kentucky in the summer of 1950, but no dice so far. Remembering that these were pulled off, refurbished and overhauled and sent to Japan along with the Knox based 70th Tk Bn to arm 8th Army with more tanks.

Next to my 2/12th Cav barracks area off to the side on the one street at Hood there was an old Walker Bulldog, solid OD and no Stars and no Bumper Numbers. it was on a traffic island, got a picture of it, snapped it in like December 80, but I took it through the windshield of my buddies POV as I was sitting in the back seat and driving towards it. Not worth posting as it came out terrible, not one my best photographic efforts

Was scanning some fotos I dug out for other things , So Just for the heck of it I scanned this foto too, forgot all about that smashed windshield , forgot what he said happened to it now, wasn't baseball, because it was already December, he was married and lived off post you see (Killeen) so it definitely happened near his apartment, not on post.

Nice photos Rick! We have two nearly identical Sherman tanks on display here in Calgary at the Mewata Armoury and at The Military Museums; I'll have to grab some photos next time I'm in the neighborhood.
