Craig and Leif,

Both of these tunics can have a VERY fine home if they ever need one, and Leif, yours could stay in Colorado!! :D

Craig...... You only post this to tease me, don't you???

Definitely cool. thumbsup.gif

I could never figure out some of these WWI camo schemes. Seems like they would have stuck out like a sore thumb!! crying.gif

I think these camo schemes were painted on simply to break up the outline of a solid helmet sticking up in a tangle of barbed wire, wood, and dirt. I've also heard that a lot of these helmets were painted post-war as souveniers of the men's service.

Adam, I think your right, I've heard stories about the helmets being painted at the French ports before the Dough Boys sailed back to the states. Jon

I was wondering, I have seen some Ikes and 4 pockets with the CIB on the breast pocket flap. I always thought it was usually placed above the ribbons. I guess there were exceptions and it was placed under. I was just wondering as to what cause them to be placed under the ribbon bars?

I knew I had another one stashed away somewhere. Found it today. I believe this was the 2nd 4 Pocket I ever bought. A Replacement School and Command/3rd Armored Division. Nothing to special but hey I am not complaining. =)

I think when I've seen the CIB under the ribbons, it was because the guys had jump wings, etc., over the ribbons.

"Tradition"said and all manoevre and older tankers of the 2nd armored wore their patches on the chest as a mark of "long service" to the new GIs

GSP started the tradition during the manoevres of 1941

I have a pair of HBT coveralls with the 2nd patch on the breast

I have a wartime yearbook of the 12th Armored Division, and there are many shots of tankers wearing 12th AD patches on their left breast, mainly on HBT coveralls.

Hi Dwight how are you...yes i have also seen wartime pictures of 1st and 3rd Armour Tankers and also Tank Destroyer Troops with patches on their breasts

12th also...thats a new one on me

so it was by no means ONLY a 2nd armor quirk...but that is the unit that it is mainly associated with.

Thank you for the info...do you collect "Hellcat" items Dwight

Regards

Lloyd
