AndyUSMC Posted February 19, 2010 Share #1 Posted February 19, 2010 Here are a couple of photos of some of my HMM-263 Patches. Since its designation as a HMM ssquadron in the early 1960s they switched back and forth between two basic designs at least three times. I will describe them in columns from left to right: 1st Column Flight Jacket patch 1963-64 Bicentenial 1976 MAWTS circa 1989 2nd Column Small patch 1964 Gopher Broke Vietnam 1969 Mid 1970s Patch Mid 1970s Patch 3rd Column Desert Storm HMM-263 Thunderchicken T Shirt, this was never made into an actual patch, it was only printed on T shirts. Mid 1970s Patch Mid 1970s Patch 4th Column 1980s until transition to VMM designation, some time around 2006. *This same design was also used from the mid 1960s until the early 1970s HMM-263(MAWTS patch) circa 2002. Based on the MAWTS-1 patch. This was unpopular and short lived. HMM-263(REIN) OIF deployment patch. 2003-2004 VMM-263 Below: Left, Patch made during 1993 Persian Gulf and Somalia deployment. This was ordered from a patch company that made it in USAF subdued colors. This one was also not very popular and was short lived. Right, design for deployment patch. This was approved by the CO, but never was ordered. Too bad. I served in this squadron from 1990-1994, If anyone has any patches or memorabilia from HMM-263 I would be interested in buying or trading for it.
