Very nice indeed. Now you will need to find a copy of the General's book, A FULL LIFE, 1960.

Indeed I need to find a signed copy🙂

Also looking to get the Truman Signature PSA Authentication and Encapsulate the letters
Signature sadly is Very FADED so need to protect it as best I can

Curious if anyone thinks this LOM C fits the time-line ? since the London Gazette Dispach
is AUG 9 1945 I would expect this to be from that time-line
When did they stop numbering, NO NUMBER
When did they stop the Loop Catch ?

Thanks in advance, All discussion Good or Bad is Welcome

Legion of Merit Commander grade awarded to Dr. General Hans Speidel.  Army of the Federal Republic of Germany and former Wehrmacht General. During WWII Hans Speidel held commands on both the Eastern and Western. In April 1944 he was chief of staff to Field Marshal Erwin Rommel when he played a role in the conspiracy to assassinate Adolf Hitler. Post war he joined the Bundeswehr becoming it's first Four Star General.  General Speidel, commanded NATO land forces in Central Europe from 1957 to 1963. He was recipient of both the Knights Cross and the Legion of Merit.

Just recently Added the 12C CHIEF COMMANDER & Ribbon/Lapel Pin to my collection

1950/60s LOM-CC (as best I can call with my limited experience)
1945 - 51 BG HORROCKS LOM-C (AS best I can deduce from the construction & Documentation)
Added the Commander Ribbon & Screw back Lapel Pin to the collection (not part of the original Horrocks set)

JUST Need to find a PIERCED OUT LOM Officer and Legionnaire to complete the GROUP

Your commander is a 1951 Balfour contract, IMO the best after the BBB strikes

Thank you so much, very much appreciated

EDIT Were you speaking about the Chief Commander BEING 1951 Balfour Contract

No I know the commander is Balfour. I’d need closer pics of the chief to make a fair assessment

Again Thank you very much. The Neck ribbon on the Commander is a Hand sewn Pink/Red Thread (same color as ribbon)
and only two snaps. I have seen one reported to be 1946 / 49 with only 1 snap (transition period) and the 1951 two snap version.
This one (shown above) has a Signed Truman Approval order White House stationary letter so would have to be the 45/53 time period.

I would suspect the one snap transition LOM-C neck ribbon could of been a very short lived time frame considering the earlier ones had 2 hooks
{ I could be mistaken on that point}.
May have been just a trial version to test out the snaps until someone noticed it should have two

Anyone know when Balfour first started supplying the Medals ? Thinking these two snap/ Hand sown LOM-C could of been
issued earlier or even later than 1951 probably starting very early in there production under Balfour.

PLEASE take everything I say with a grain of salt I am very new to this
so I truly appreciate all the help you have provided, Thank you so much

Oh almost forgot why I responded I do have more views the following

I would say 4 times a LoM.recepient. I spot a LoM with 3 oak leaf clusters.

Very nice group manayunkman.

Herman

What an amateur oversight.

Yes it is 4 times and thank you Herman for pointing that out.

Here is a close up of his miniature medal bar and the LoM has 3 clusters.

What a beautiful and rare medal Allan!  The pierced arrow LOM is a grail item and is a wonderful early example.  Thanks for sharing it here with us to drool over.

Beautiful commander LOM.  Looks WWII to me with the numbering.

I have the same case with a 1951 Balfour commander LOM in it.

2 snap ribbon on my Balfour commander LOM

Mine as well :) I still question the exact date they were issued, no real reason except
I cant find an official timeline but maybe i have just not found one yet :)

Thanks BTW good to know

EDIT I should mention I think they were issued earlier, with the single snap being dated earlier and
I would think that got changed FAST

It would be great if the Balfour was issued in WWII.  Balfour did make some WWII medals.  But the only info I've ever seen is that the Balfour commander LOM was issued in 1951.  I believe jmar, here on the forum, is pretty knowledgeable about commander LOM's.
