Here is a group of miniature medals with the LOM to Lt. Col. Lloyd W. Sterns. The group is in a Spink and Son Ltd. leather case. He was awarded the LOM along with the Order of Saints Maurice and Lazarus (the highest knightly order of Italy) and the Order of the Crown of Italy. The LOM is engraved with his initials. Lt.Col. Lloyd W. Stearns was Flag Lt. to the Commanding Officer of Allied Control Commission, Admiral Stone, in Italy.

I am smitten with this bar...just sensational. I am drawn to anything dealing with Italian orders as well so this is a treat to see. Excellent with the documentation and the case is just the cat's meow.

My newest, wrap brooch, small numbered 5574, but sadly not traceable...but pretty none the less....you cannot beat the quality of work on the older ones....

Well done Michael! That is exactly as the one I have and we discussed. Now you have a nicely marked Irons & Russell LOM!

Best wishes to you!

Joe

A vintage mid to late 1960s, according to LOM guru pal A. Menke, Commander neck badge, awarded to Turkish General Mehmet Ali Keskiner (1906-1989). He joined the army in 1923 and got his fourth star in 1964, retiring a year later. Assuming the vintage is correct, the LOM could have been a retirement award after many years of interaction with US forces.

P.S. Posting high quality pictures here was very difficult and time consuming just now. I had to degrade superb high res pics in Photoshop several times just so they would fit here, but to the point where they lost clarity. Is there not a better way, or am I missing something?

Is there any way to trace a LOM by its serial number? A few months back I picked up #8548 at a local auction.

Sorry to report that the list of 574 WW2 LOMs that are traceable by brooch number has no entries in the 8xxx range.

Early Legion of Merit #9661 script engraved to Robert E. Miller.

I have been striking out with the research on this one, so any help would be much appreciated.
