FAAA Posted February 12, 2010 Share #1 Posted February 12, 2010 Letters from Southern France Dear Mom and Dad. It’s been many weeks now since last I wrote, this war has been keeping me busy and for some time now I don’t seem to have found the time to write you. I have been getting your letters ok, but all are from a month or so ago, it seems we have been moving so fast those letters cannot keep up with us. Well we are now off the line and I have time to write. It is cold here but with Christmas not too far away I guess thats to be expected. No snow yet, but we have already seen some a month or so ago in the mountains, before that it was as hot as hell, but that was way back in August. Pa, I have seen a lot since volunteering for the Paratroops, I have lost so many good friends from this outfit, I do what I can to help the wounded and the Doc has saved many, we are a good team but I wonder when it will end. We have been told we are to rest here until called forward, to where I do not know, we are told the War in Europe at least will be over soon, but I am not too sure. Here there are many other outfits, all airborne, some have seen plenty too. It seems we can say more in our letters, the censors don’t seem that bothered anymore. I have enclosed some pictures I cut from that Yank magazine; our outfit had one of their reporters with us from Italy to Southern France, hell I think he even jumped in with us! He done a good job, he said our outfit was special, I guess as some of us had done 5 combat jumps we were a little special , I hope we walk into combat next time if we have to, I’m done with jumping. Well it will soon be chow, the foods not too bad, there is enough of it for sure, but it never seems hot enough, everywhere it’s so cold, hopefully our gear will catch up with us real soon, well if not I hope we don’t go anywhere any time soon! Don’t worry about me now, the worst is over, but it looks like snow is on its way. I will write again soon. Your ever loving son
