Yes, Sommerall was Chief of Staff, but it was years before the badge was adopted. Still, he was allowed to wear it on his post retirement uniform as he is shown here.

General Charles P. Summerall was the 12. Chief of Staff of the Army from November 21, 1926 to November 20, 1930.

This week I received for my collection the 3 inches version for Chief of Staff and former Chiefs of Staff made by BB&B.

It's a huge badge that is shown in comparison the the 2 inches version, but you must have it in hand to feel how fantastic it is.

It is the center piece of my collection.

Here is the official drawing of the "IDENTIFICATION FOR WAR DEPARTMENT GENERAL STAFF"

This one has the GEMSCO NY hallmark inside a wreath: it seems to be an less common mark for these, in my experience. This and the General Staff collar insignia came from a 1941 West Point grad.

Thank you for showing these pictures. I like the hallmark from GEMSCO NY inside a wreath.

 

I hope to find one of these for my collection on day.
