Chribo Posted February 5, 2010 Author Share #2 Posted February 5, 2010 It was just screaming for a bit of research...... "At 4.20pm the 2nd Battalion, 60th Infantry, and the 2nd Battalion, 61st Infantry, had reached the bank of the river, and the engineers started work on the first bridge. At this moment a tremendous fire of machine guns and artillery burst on the exposed troops with great suddenness. The infantry sought shelter and found it, but the engineers bravely continued at their posts. Shells sank their boats as fast as they could be placed in the water and by 6.00 P. M. no boats were left. ".. the article is here http://www.kaiserscross.com/257543/262901.html

Thisisme Posted July 20, 2010 Share #9 Posted July 20, 2010 Great stuff. This is why we need collectors to take care of the medals and the history with them. Thank you.
Chribo Posted July 21, 2010 Author Share #10 Posted July 21, 2010 Thanks for the photos. I visited the same area two years ago crossing the bridge in Dun-sur-Meuse several times. If anyone is planning to visit the Meuse Argonne area, I drive down quite often and would be happy to join them. From our last trip.....
