CNY Militaria Posted June 23, 2007 Share #1 Posted June 23, 2007 Does anyone recognize the ribbon on the bottom right? I have seen it before but cannot remember what it is. Thanks!
KurtA Posted June 23, 2007 Share #2 Posted June 23, 2007 It appears to be the WW1 French Verdun Medal. Kurt
CNY Militaria Posted June 23, 2007 Author Share #3 Posted June 23, 2007 Thanks, thats what it looks to be. I wonder why it would be on a 7th AD Ike jacket...I wonder if it was mistaken for something else.
CNY Militaria Posted June 24, 2007 Author Share #4 Posted June 24, 2007 Here is the rest of the uniform, a first army sized patch used to be on the left shoulder. Any thoughts on why the Verdun ribbon would be on here?
JBFloyd Posted June 24, 2007 Share #5 Posted June 24, 2007 The Verdun Medal was "awarded" to an individual for a contribution to the rebuilding on the city and area. I've seen award documents well into the 1930s to Americans, so it's not inconceivable that the Ike's owner put a few francs in the box when the division went through Verdun in August '44.
