vinnie Posted January 30, 2010 Share #1 Posted January 30, 2010 Hi everyone, I recently acquired several restoration M1 front seam shells. This is one of them (a McCord shell, made around dec.1943 - jan. 1944). The outside seems to be postwar repainted and it had new airborne insignias applied (...they are too big to be original). I tried several times with some acetone (after I made these pics) on wads of cotton wool, but the paint is very hard to remove. I'm 100% sure that there is only one (original) paint layer underneath the current one. My question is: could anyone give me advise on how I could remove the repaint, besides from acetone? I live in the Netherlands, so unfortunately there's no goof off... :ermm:

gaz232sqn Posted January 31, 2010 Share #5 Posted January 31, 2010 Hi. I have used paint stripper, brush it on and leave it ...but not to long, and wash it off with water. If you repeat this several times, you can slowly remove the layers of paint in stages. Cheers Gaz
