Gutkowski Posted June 21, 2007 #1 Posted June 21, 2007 I am trying to figure out if this is the elusive SC 275 that there seems to be no photos anywhere of this boat .Do the hull numbers look like 275 to you ? Feel free to post some of your favorite ships of the Wars The top ship is the USS Von Steuben 1917-1919 Close up of the SC 275 -Fate unknown Top Photo is the USS Mississippi 1917-1956 Bottom photo is the USS Washington No47 1903-1946 USS Breck DD-283 1919-1931 Night Fire with the Main guns ship unknown Same Ship in the Day
Guest toddwoof Posted December 30, 2008 #2 Posted December 30, 2008 I'm a little late to the table, here ... But yes, that appears to be SC 275. I posted a nice shot of this chaser not long ago, here: http://www.subchaser.org/sc275 Based on the shape of the hull number characters -- the rounded 7 in particular, I'd say it's almost certain that your photo is of the same chaser. I would guess that the photo was taken sometime shortly post-war, as the deck gun is still there but the bearing indicator is gone. Can't quite tell if the Y-gun is still in place. --Todd Woofenden, The Subchaser Archives I am trying to figure out if this is the elusive SC 275 that there seems to be no photos anywhere of this boat .Do the hull numbers look like 275 to you ?
camonick Posted December 30, 2008 #3 Posted December 30, 2008 NavSource has a few pictures during and just after her construction. I find myself looking at this web site often for Navy ship references. I don't know if you looked here, but this is the link for SC-275: http://www.navsource.org/archives/12/150275.htm Good luck with your search. Nick

j. t. thompson Posted June 30, 2025 #6 Posted June 30, 2025 That's USS Missouri. The U.S. flag and number 63 can just be seen on top of turret one. Courtesy of Naval History and Heritage Command NH 96811 USS Missouri (BB-63) "Forward turret fires a 16 inch shell at enemy forces attacking Hungnam, North Korea, during a night bombardment in December 1950. In the background, LSMRs are firing rockets, with both ends of the trajectory visible. This is a composite image, made with two negatives taken only a few minutes apart. Photograph is dated 28 December 1950, but was probably taken on 23-24 December."
