Hi all

I am researching the crash of a B-17 of 15th Air Force, 97th Bombardment Group (Heavy), 414th Squadron on Feb. 27, 1945 here in Switzerland. I have the crew names from the MACR but I am looking for more information such as a photo of the plane named Mickey. Furthermore, photos of the crew or crew member would be very appreciated.

If any of you guys could help me or let me know where to look up would be great.

Thanks ins advance

Jurg,

Have you tried armyairforces.com? Their forum has been very helpful to me for researching several aircraft and crews.

Here's a link that shows a photo of the plane in question, 44-8248 (3rd photo from the top) ~> 414th Bomb Squadron Aircraft

The photo shows why this B-17 was called "Mickey" - it has a radome in place of the ball turret. That means it's a Pathfinder Force (PFF) aircraft, has H2X radar which was code named "Mickey", and all PFF aircraft were commonly referred to by that name.

PS. According to another website, the aircraft was shot down by Swiss fighters.
