nguoi tien su Posted January 7, 2010 Share #64 Posted January 7, 2010 Thanks Joe for those photos ! What a work ! The gate you show on #60 is inside the Cao Dai temple area. The temple has not changed since. About Nui Ba Den, I have always wondered who provided the Black Virgin Mountain translation that stuck since then! Whereas "Nui" is mountain and "den" is black, Ba is the word used to speak about an old woman with respect (or the grand mother). She might avec been virgin, but history does not say it ! Trinh is virgin in vietnamese. I guess it was more part of the mystic fantasy of some GIs ! If I may, post #45 does not show Thieu. As you can see there are many soldiers around with the Philippine Civic Action Group patch. It is president Ferdinand Marcos who came to visit the troops in july 67. DiGilio Posted January 7, 2010 Author Share #65 Posted January 7, 2010 Thanks for clearing it up as to who is in that photo. I really did not know for sure who it was. It looked a little like Thieu, George thought it might of been him and the amount of photographers and such fit with someone that famous. I cant edit the post now that its a few days old but Ill try to have that fixed.

DiGilio Posted January 20, 2010 Author Share #67 Posted January 20, 2010 Here is another item some of you may find interesting. While with the 45th Surgical Hospital, George would sometimes listen to KBC 3168 Radio Saigon. One day he wrote to the station to request the song "We've Gotta Get Out of This Place" by The Animals. He recieved a letter not too long after from Miss Mai Lan, the Vietnamese DJ, in return and then later got a Christmas card. He had already rotated home by December so the card had to be re-routed to his old home address. The back of the photo sent in the first letter is on the left.
