This is the safety belt of Oberleutant Carl Menckhoff's Fokker D VII brought down by 1st. Lt Walter Avery of the 95th Aero Squadron. Avery took this belt from the plane after it was forced down behind friendly lines. Menckhoff was a celebrated German Ace, officially credited with 39 victories. - Menckhoff was Avery's first victory. - This was acquired directly from Lt. Avery by Harry Block.
