Some of my WWII Naval Aviator flight helmets

My favorite setup; a red deck helmet with TC66 earcups covered in chamois. The original owner added 2 lucky charms to it; one dessicated rabbit foot on top and 2 dice dangling from the TH37 cord. I love personalized setups like this one.

Plain issued blue deck helmet displayed with black TC66 covered in chamois headset (cut from a M-450 flight helmet). THe goggles are mint MKI goggles.

I had never seen a setup like this one before and it looks like this one is unique.

Another really great setup. Helmet named to George B. Woodbury who was with VMSB-131 on Guadalcanal. I have 2 more helmets from him. Woodbury got a Silver Star in Korea. The helmet is unusual because it is fitted with internal TC66 earcups and it still retains the leather earcups on the outside. I had never seen another setup like this before. THe helmet has seen alot of action and I believe this is the one he used on Guadalcanal.

Rigger modified M-450 flight helmet with acoustic earcups covered in chamois. The oxy snaps are heavily reinforced from the inside. I tried to take pictures of the reinforcements but I was too lazy to take the helmet off the display head. THe mask came with the helmet. Named to a USMC pilot but so far no luck on research.

  • 3 weeks later...

Another setup I recently acquired. Named to Mike Purpura USMC. He was with VMF 211 and then VMF 212. In 1943, the SS Matsonia took him to Ewa, where he was assigned to Marine Fighting Squadron 211 (squadron of F4U's). In October of 1943,he was reassigned to VMF-212. I am trying to find out more information through the family.
