bazelot Posted November 6, 2019 Author Share #1502 Posted November 6, 2019 Latest setup. Both helmet and goggles are named to Carl Lawrence Love. Goggle strap was modified. I love this setup and the history attached to it. Carl L. Love, 93, died September 8, 2017 at Bethel Home in Montezuma. He was born on June 21, 1924 in Reece, the son of Ira C. and Frances (Gentry) Love. Carl attended a country school in Reece and then attended high school in Hamilton. After graduation, Carl served his country in World War II in the South Pacific as a tail gunner in the United States Navy. Carl continued his education at Emporia State Teachers College where he earned a Bachelor's Degree in Education. On September 2, 1949, he married Marilyn Thomas in Montezuma. She preceded him in death on December 13, 1983. Carl taught from 1951-1964 in Stafford, Sublette, Cimarron and Montezuma, teaching math, chemistry, science, art, and 6th grade. He was also a farmer, retiring in 1980 and owned rental properties. After his retirement, Carl enjoyed the freedom to visit his family and attend auctions. Carl loved his family and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Carl L. Love was with VC-99. THe attached roster is when the squadron sailed as passengers from the West Coast to Hawaii in January 1945 to finish their training. In April 1945 they went to Saipan, where they were land based, and flew anti-sub patrols until the end of the month. On 4/30/45, they embarked on CVE-75 USS Hoggatt Bay, and conducted ground support missions for the Marines on Okinawa from May 17-June 22 1945. He would have been a turret gunner on one of the squadron's 12 TBM Avengers. bazelot Posted January 24, 2020 Author Share #1506 Posted January 24, 2020 Latest setup. M-450 with the addition of a nametag of the pilot on the back of the helmet. This modification is not seen very often and I believe this is the only M-450 I have with a nametag on the back. It is displayed with a nice pair of MKIV goggles. bazelot Posted March 21, 2020 Author Share #1514 Posted March 21, 2020 Since i have plenty of time with that stay at home policy, i decided to finally replace the sponge earcups in my red rigger modified helmet. original earcups had completely disintegrated so replacing them was a no brainer. Result is fantastic.it was actually very easy to do and i didn't have to touch the original material around them.

bazelot Posted March 23, 2020 Author Share #1519 Posted March 23, 2020 Beauty! Love those volcano earphopes!!!! Thanks, They are not volcano earcups though. They are the AAF sponge ones. volcano earcups don't age bad except for some level of hardening. The sponge ones though are very prone to drying out. bazelot Posted June 28, 2020 Author Share #1524 Posted June 28, 2020 Latest setup. Early 3 side panel AN6540 helmet with added oxygen snap reinforced with sail cloth. I didn't have one reinforced with this material before. This material was usually used to create the goggle loops on modified deck helmets but i had never seen it used to reinforce oxy snaps. If only it could talk, it looks like it has seen a lot of action.
