bazelot Posted May 20, 2019 Author Share #1401 Posted May 20, 2019 I actually already had one helmet with snap on to of the helmet. The pilot Henry Shaw served with VMF-155 and later VMF-322 in the Pacific. He actually served with John Glenn in VMF-155 in the Pacific. He received a DFC for his actions in the Pacific. The pilot's name is on the brow of the helmet and the goggle strap. I also have his entire files from before his deployment when he was in training. bazelot Posted June 3, 2019 Author Share #1411 Posted June 3, 2019 Latest setup. Just got this one. Beautiful modified M-450 with acoustic earcups and TH37 receivers. Grouping came with the original goggles, leggings, patches and a copy of all the pages of his log book. Log book shows wartime flights in VMSB-343, as a gunner in SBD Dauntless and SB2C Helldiver aircraft. Shows him flying as the gunner from Midway Island, doing escort, strafing, night glide bombing, patrol, sub cover, search, diving bombing, and more. The Sergeant rank was theater made and very interesting. I do not collect ranks but this one was made from scratch, was it common to do that in combat areas? dustin Posted June 9, 2019 Share #1422 Posted June 9, 2019 To juice up the pot to an already fine thread I've gone through my photo archive and pulled out some select images of a variety of flight helmets. The first eight images are all one squadron and each helmet worn is different illustrating the uncomformity to all.
