I thought I'd share this small grouping I have from a guy who was with the Rakkasans in Korea,he later did a second tour with the 15th Inf.Regt,3rd Inf.Div. Although I primarily collect AAF I have a few small groupings/items from Korea era paratroopers.

The unlucky paratrooper painted under the canopy appear in some 1953 copies of th regimental newspaper and in the 53-54 yearbook.

More to follow in the next days...

Cheers

According to the SSI and the embroidered name tape, this FJ M43 fits for the period from the end of the second tour of the 187th (when the RCT came back to the camp Chickamauga, Beppu, Japan) till the introduction of the gold and black ARMY tapes.

This still life displays few more 187th items.

The souvenir silk scarf from Beppu seems to be a first tour paratrooper souvenir during his R&R or in convalescence in Japan. Apparently, it could be a lifer who asked to add his old style airborne garrison cap patch and the 11th airborne SSI (till the summer 1951, the 187th worn the 11th patch).

The Beppu belt belonged to M/SGT Miller. His name, assignment, serial number are engraved on the internal side.

His “no limit pass” received the CO signature, brigadier Westmoreland.

Greetings all, I am new here..............my father was Korean War Rakkasan (Co D, he was converted from the 127th ABE as they got ready to ship out in 1950). That jacket displays almost exactly as his post war Ike does.

Dad's APMC was less one star and his KSM was also less one star (I had to reference this through his DA20 in his 201 file).

Here is a barracks pic of Rakkasans having fun!

Look closely at the pic(s) and you can see what I was mentioning about his jacket.

Here is a picture I dug out of the archives at the NCO Museum.

This is Colonel Weldon F. Honeycutt. He was the Commandant of the United States Army Sergeants Major Academy in February 1975. His previous assignment prior to coming to USASMA was command of 3rd Brigade, 101st Airborne Division (Rakkasans). He also served with the RAKKASANS in Vietnam.
