jerry_k Posted November 26, 2019 Share #429 Posted November 26, 2019 Hi Guys. Under a pararaftanr2 forum member influence I decided to buy a new mannequin from: https://yanksmannequins.com/. they are not very very cheap but for sure worth it! Also some small items was added to my last USMC pilot. . Closer look. Right hand... Left hand Burgess penlight is filled into sleeve pocket with automatic pencil and U.S. Navy lipstick in a left chest flight suit pocket. ESM/1 Navy issued signal mirror is visible in right leg pocket. Part of a white strap in upper hip right pocket is a tourniquet used in crisis situation after a bad shot (mentioned in some action report - thanks Paul for help). Enjoy, Jerry
BlueBookGuy Posted November 26, 2019 Share #430 Posted November 26, 2019 Great-looking guy Jerry, realistic and 'alive'... well done indeed. And, great items here and there. Please a couple questions, what model the goggles? And, what kind the helmet cable's extension?
jerry_k Posted November 27, 2019 Share #431 Posted November 27, 2019 Thanks Franco! The goggle are NAVY MKIV version. Cable is another style of extension cord for earphones. Here is Avenger VC-84 pilot used exactly this type. Regards, Jerry

jerry_k Posted November 27, 2019 Share #435 Posted November 27, 2019 Thanks Graham. Details as always make a huge good work ! Yeah, it was a great feeling to saw a SBD's on a big screen. Of course some issues could be better. 7/10 for me:) but why they used a USAAF T-30 throat mics? It was a tear in my eye for sure. I hope you are well! Charlie Flick Posted November 27, 2019 Share #436 Posted November 27, 2019 Hello Jerry: More marvelous improvements to your display. I salute you! I especially like seeing the Australian-made square tip machete, a very scarce item even here in the USA and doubly so in Europe, no doubt. I also like the M1936 pistol belt modified with the ammunition loops for the .38 Special Tracer ammo for the S&W Victory. A very nice, authentic touch there. I share your thoughts on the film MIDWAY. Many excellent parts, some not so excellent. I graded it as a B+ effort and am glad that I saw it. Keep up the good work. You are an inspiration to the rest of us. jerry_k Posted November 28, 2019 Share #438 Posted November 28, 2019 Thanks Charlie. The Australian machete is one of the my favorite items. A lot of USN/USMC aviators used it! What a pity that only I and a few people put here some US NAVY aviators stuff. I guess more forum members have a great Naval Aviation items in his collections. Thanks Navybean and thanks for the mirror ! Cheers, Jerry
Navybean Posted December 2, 2019 Share #439 Posted December 2, 2019 Jerry i took a little time today and took some picitures of some of my USN gear. I started with some parachutes, moved on to some Jackets, life vests, and few other items. Lot of pictures First off is my QAS (quick attached Seat) chute pack with harness. Used mainly by Aircraft Carrier crews. more of the QAS more of the QAS, the chute typially stayed in the aircraft and the flight crew wore the harness into the plane. moving on, the next item is the QAC (quick attach chute) this is a harness with chest mounted D-ring. the chute was attached to the chest D-rings simular to the AAF type A-3. This chute was typically worn by larger aircraft like the PBY more of the QAC next chute is the Chute Seat Type, worn typially during training but was also used by some land based fighter squadrons. few more pictures there are a few more parachute types used by the USN such as the back pack style. next are a few of the USN flight jackets used during WW2. I know there are more options and there are better threads covering this subject but this is a good sample. M422A goatskin flight jacket WW2 version of the later G-1 Most people are used to. next is the ANJ3A flight jacket, Army/Navy version of the M422A flight jacket. Later war issue. next version of the M422A is the AN3552 another Army/Navy variation late war moving on to some of the USN M421A series cotton light weight flight jackets. The are a few variations of this jacket, most with 2 pockets but also later versions with 3 and even 4 pockets. This jacket is also known as the ANJ2A I do not believe Army ever wore this coat. first jacket is the M421A with 2 pockets. next is the M421A with 3 pockets. This jacket also has added rigger made straps on the shoulders assuming for attachment of the M592 back pack survival kit? next jacket is the M445B, again there are a bunch of versions of this jacket, major differences are location of bottom buttons and number of buttons. Later this jacket morphed into the ANJ4A Army/Navy jacket . This jacket was typically used during training in open cockpit type aircraft but was also used in larger aircraft such as PBY etc... Jacket is fleece lined similar to the AAF B-3 Flight jacket. next jacket is the M-69, transport coat. this coat was carried in blimps and larger aircraft like PBY for use by pasengers in high altitude flight. I believe blimp crews also used this coat.
Navybean Posted December 2, 2019 Share #440 Posted December 2, 2019 next on the list for me are some of the flightsuits used by the USN during WW2 The USN used a number of summer weight suits, I will start with the ANS31 another Army/Navy suit which was used by both services. this suit has a rigger modified addition of a Mk1 knife scabbard added to it's leg. next is the M426 summer weight suit. late in WW2 the USN experimented with Nylon materials. They made flight suits, flight helmets with Nylon. This suit is light weight Nylon suit. next up is the USN early war M456A 24volt electrically heated suit. Used in open cockpit type aircraft, also in blimps i believe (could be wrong). Suit is heavy with internal suspenders and electric plugs with wires running through out the suit. next up is the AL-1 heavy weight flight suit. this came in two variations, one as a suit and the other as a jacket with seperate pants. this is the suit. This was a late war item but was used in the pacific bypically with groups flying PB4Y (USN version of the B24)
Navybean Posted December 2, 2019 Share #441 Posted December 2, 2019 moving on from flight suits, couple sets of USN sepcific flight boots. First is a BUEAIR deck shoe with cord type soles, only 2 sets of eyelets. Used by deck crews on aircraft carriers and also by air crews. next set of boots is the M380 cold weather flight boots. used with the M445 flight jacket and M446 flight pants. Simular to the A-6 AAF boots but they lace up in back and have two sets of zippers on each boot. the boot tag M380
Navybean Posted December 2, 2019 Share #442 Posted December 2, 2019 moving on to some USN survival gear. First off two of the types of Maewest life preservers. Navybean Posted December 2, 2019 Share #443 Posted December 2, 2019 next accessories moving on to the seat type lift rafts more of the seat type raft dated 1943 next is the later war type PK-1 lift raft kit. the raft used a bag that attached to the side of the QAS chute harness the pack included bunch of survival gear in the bottom of the pack. more of the PK1 including survival contents
Navybean Posted December 2, 2019 Share #444 Posted December 2, 2019 moving on to some of the USN survial kits. the main type was the M592 survial backpack. The pack included bunches contents including rations, flares, machette, compass, gloves, poncho, 1st aid kits, the pack was worn under the QAS chute harness, under the survival vest on the aircrew mans back. more of the M-592 showing contents more of the M592 contents with list of contents next is the USN Aviator Kit Individual, this kits was a 1st aid kit typically worn on pilots belt. Navybean Posted December 2, 2019 Share #445 Posted December 2, 2019 next up is a few USN personal items starting with some USN specific flight goggles. There were a couple of types used by the USN early in WW2 including MK1, MKII and the MKIV goggles. I have some MK1s but i can not find them, but next are pics of the MARK-II and MARK-IV. next is the MK-IV USN early war oxygen mask with rigger modified M450-1 Flight Helmet
Navybean Posted December 2, 2019 Share #446 Posted December 2, 2019 next up is a Shoulder Holster for the USN Victory Model .38 cal. revolver carried by air crew. Navybean Posted December 2, 2019 Share #447 Posted December 2, 2019 Next is the USN early war RS-76 throat microphone. They have leather on the metal spring that wraps around the wearers neck. next is a USN pilots ploting board carrieried by air crew for over water navigation. last is a set of USN summer weight flight gloves which is it for now. i have more but would take a lot some more digging. i am just hoping that i have contributed something of value to the forum but giving simple examples of some USN WW2 era flight gear. jerry_k Posted December 2, 2019 Share #450 Posted December 2, 2019 Hi Mike. Thanks for posting your stuff! Great. Nice to see something new here! Of course a QAS pack is the best and your Seat type chute! M421a jacket is interesting. I noticed modification like this somewhere before on M426 flight suit. For sure it was done for kind of purpose! Maybe you are right about M592 kit! Thanks again, Jerry
