sgtbrown Posted September 20, 2010 Share #101 Posted September 20, 2010 Jerry, FWIW, what I did to get a displayable "Victory Model" was to purchase one of the 5" barreled .38 S&W VM's sold to the British under Lend Lease. A ton of these came into the US a few years ago. It was totally beat to snot and I wouldn't have dared trying to shoot it. I had a friend cut the barrel down to 4", re-crown it and then re-solder the front sight onto the barrel. I then removed the firing pin and "Super Glued" empty cartridge cases into the cylinder so ammunition could not be loaded. That left me with a pistol that I could put out on display with no fear of someone stealing it and using it. Tom
Lightning Ace Posted September 20, 2010 Share #102 Posted September 20, 2010 Jerry I forgot to mentioned it but on Saturday before last on September 11th I got a ride in a WW II P-51 Mustang and it was an unreal thrill but still my ultimate dream ride is going to be when I get a ride in a P-38 Lightning. Mike Good morning Mike. wow 585 is not bad for .38 Navy marked... even Im dont thinking about 115:) It was a great time to collect militaria!!! now It is very hard to find this revolver even in USA I guess... maybe it is possible to find damaged revolver only to put in holster for display:) the 5-6 hundred $$$ is totaly not for my pocket now ((( Thanks for good input to the thread, Regards, Jerry K. sgtbrown Posted September 24, 2010 Share #104 Posted September 24, 2010 I know also that Tom got a ride in SBD Dauntles, If Im wrong Tom correct me !Jerry K. Not quite a "Slow But Deadly" Dauntless! The plane in my avatar is a SNJ trainer. Over the years I have also lucked into rides in a C47, L2, L5, T6, another C47, a Ford Tri-Motor and a B17. They even let me take the controls of the C47, the L5 and the T6. I am still kicking myself for not spending the bucks to get a P51 ride back in the early 90's. Lightening Ace is one lucky guy!! Lightning Ace Posted September 24, 2010 Share #105 Posted September 24, 2010 Tom You've rode on some neat planes of which next summer I hope to get a ride in a B-24, B-17 and a B-25. I wish I would have taken my P-51 ride in the 90's too because the ride was only $500 and now its $1100 which includes a years membership in the Aviation Flight Museum which is only $60 but I think it was worth every cent. The P-38 Lightning ride is going to cost me $2,050 plus the trip to where I'll get the ride. I'm enclosing a picture of the P-51 when we had taxied in from the flight. Bebel Posted September 24, 2010 Share #106 Posted September 24, 2010 You are lucky guys, although you must pay for such a flight. In France it's today almost impossible to fly on ww2 propeller aircrafts due to the administration rules and insurance cost. But it is possible to pay and fly on military training jet. I have been lucky to ride in a C-47 in the 90's. Franck
Lightning Ace Posted September 25, 2010 Share #107 Posted September 25, 2010 My friend who is from England and lives here in the USA but goes back to England to visit from time to time says it costs 1300 pounds for a ride in a Spitfire for 20 minutes I believe and 3,000 pounds for a ride that lasts an hour, so I don't feel to bad for what my P-51 Mustang ride cost me. SeaDog30 Posted September 27, 2010 Share #110 Posted September 27, 2010 I can still kick myself for selling my US Navy marked Victory 38 several years ago but there still has to be more out there and I'm willing to pay the price to get one. Thanks for verifying my USN 38 pouch and I figured you probably had one but because the Navy didn't date gear it's hard to authenticate naval aviation gear and the only thing a collector can do is have pictures of naval aviators in WW II wearing the gear or depend on other collectors who got items from WW II veterans that only served in naval aviation in WW II and brought the items home.I'm still looking for you a WW II USN pilots Penlight like I sold a few months back. Mike Hi Mike, I have a WWII, U.S. Victory shoulder holster. It also has the loops for extra ammo sewn to the shoulder strap. I'm not certain and doubt it is USN marked but is wartime dated. It's brown in color and I can send pictures to you if you're interetsted. Let me know. Rick

jerry_k Posted October 26, 2010 Share #123 Posted October 26, 2010 Thanks JGC for words! I want to noticed that the white lanyards from two-cells flashlight (BMG company) and black whistle is made from cord included in M592 survival kit and is WW2 vintage. Here I added another photo with (I believe) black metal BMG two-cells flashlight. The best regards, Jerry K.
babaou Posted December 9, 2010 Share #124 Posted December 9, 2010 Hi guys, I've noticed Jerry's interest for green Navy nylon flight suits. See following photos about TBM pilots of VMTB-454 which were taken in USA during training (the unit never saw combat action as the war ended when the unit was on board the escort aircraft carrier Puget Sound ending its qualification cruise). Photos appear to have been taken between January and June 1945 on Mojave and/or Santa Barbara Marines Air Stations. Enjoy ! Greg another one ! Lightning Ace Posted December 9, 2010 Share #125 Posted December 9, 2010 I have a beautiful WW II USN green nylon flight helmet with electronics that would go perfectly with that nylon flight suit. Great pictures.
