Black G.I.s in Belgium, 1945.

These three pictures belong to the family photo album of my old mate Rudi. They were shot in 1945 in the hamlet of Forêt, village of Trooz, Province of Liège, Belgium.

According to his mother, Forêt hosted some white troops of maintenance and repair units and the nearby hamlet a similar unit made of black G.I.s.

Thanks to Rudi and his family for sharing their pictures.

Andrei, Very nice photos! The first one looks like a studio photo. Was there a photographers studio in town? Kim

I guess. I will ask Rudi. As far as I can remember the album has much more pictures. Mostly the white troops stationned in Forêt.

That's the "red ball express" patch TCMTS standing for " Transportation command motor transport service. Troops who served in units that were part of or serviced the famous red ball express wore it. I had a uniform that had the patch on the left cuff and on the pocket. This is the first photo I've seen of the patch worn on the shirt during wartime.
