renfield Posted January 29, 2014 Share #101 Posted January 29, 2014 I have seen this picture on the net before, but was able to get an old copy of it. As I understand it she flew with the 352nd FS 353rd FG 8th AAF. The plane was lost on June 6, 1944 on a dive-bombing mission near Mortain France while being flown by F/O Green. The plane was badly damaged by the blast of his own 500lb. bombs. The pilot evaded. The name is HI-LANDER

bobatl Posted August 19, 2014 Share #104 Posted August 19, 2014 Georgia ANG F-47N's; nice paint scheme. Note that the picture was rotated to make the airplanes look level. If you make the horizon level, the Jugs are flying nose high so I suspect they were slowed up to formate on a T-6 photo plane. This is a low quality snapshot as the original photo is 11 X 14 so I'll have to scan in sections and merge them. I found a unit history with a four ship formation photo that I suspect was taken at the same time as my two ship photo. The ship with "command stripes" is flown by Lt. Col. Ollie Simpson, CO 128th Fighter Squadron, and the other ship is flown by Capt. Casteel.
