Did not know this thread existed. I think that it is something that needs more collector attention. Certainly a very important part of our history during the Great Depression leading up to WW2. CCC and Soil Conservation Service, a sister organization. Thanks, Al.

I have a modest CCC collection of about 100 items, mostly chevrons and specialty marks. I am currently writing a collector's guide and am looking for images of various CCC insignia. I have a draft of my CCC collector's guide and am up to about 70 pages. I have images of over 125 chevrons, 30 shield patches, 35 other patches, and approximately 200 Company patches.

I would love to have photos of your items. Would it be possible for each of you to send me photos of your CCC Items? I would need them in at least 180 DPI so they will look good when printed. If you send me images I will include a photo credit for each item.

Garth, I spoke with you at the ASMIC convention last year but lost track of your contact info. I should have known you would be on this forum. Anyway, I have a draft of my CCC collector's guide and am up to about 70 pages. Please PM me for details.

I have one response to my request for images. I am attaching page 1-2 of my draft. I will attach photos of my collection in another post.

Wow! You have an amazing collection. I was looking through old photos on line. It seems as if most folks had bare sleeves.... I would say about 98%. Also I have only found one photo of a member in a full dress service uniform. Were these optional?

I am not sure if there was a Dress Uniform prior to 1939. CCC Uniform regs are hard to find. I do have a reprint of the 1939 regs that prescribed the forest green uniforms.

Anybody have any documentation on CCC insignia or uniforms prior to 1939?

Dennis,

Here is an original 1938 soft cover regulations from a camp in Iowa with an illustration as to the placement of insignia.

The basic mackinaw type winter jacket used by the CCC. Bob Chatt tells me there is another version made from plaid lumberjack type material. The PBS program, the American Experience Civilian Conservation Corps, has a young man wearing a jacket like this one.

The post 1939 work shirt with stripes for Assistant Leader. These stripes replaced the chevron system with the introduction of the new Spruce Green uniform. I have only ever seen one of these uniforms in the flesh. It was in a small museum in upstate New York.

Garth,

Fantastic stuff! That is a great collection you have of CCC insignia!

That emblem on post 42 & 43 to me, looks like a quill pen.

I notice in your link to that CCC website leaves out Hawaii. Do you know of any Hawaii CCC Camps & operations?

I wonder because I have an old embroidered-on-wool Waialua Hawaii patch for CCC. I have to figure out where it is and then take a photo and post it on here.

Jon.

Jon,

The quill pen is an excellent idea, I hadn't thought of that.

All the territories: Alaska, Hawaii, Porto Rico and the Virgin Islands had CCC camps.

Would love to see yours from Hawaii.

Garth
