Current Army Chevron Size

Would you guys help me understand current Army enlisted rank insignia regulations for the Army greens and the new Class A? I've found references saying that in 1996 the "male" and "female" chevron designations were discontinued, and "large" and "small" were adopted instead (3-1/8 inches wide and 2-5/8 inches wide, respectively). In 1998, apparently, same-size male and female insignia were introduced .... but I can't find anything to tell me what size that would be, and I also see that the uniform supply houses still advertise either male/female or large/small chevrons, but not "unisex" ones. I'm confused!!

From an earlier thread this is from Army Regulation 670-1 dated 2005. It is the section on Specialist chevrons, but the width should be the same for all chevrons. These are the two sizes and male and female Soldiers can wear whichever size fits the uniform best. The regulation does not describe a third "unisex" size. You should be able to find the regulation on-line, too.

"b. Non-subdued, sew-on grade insignia for specialist.

(1) Large insignia. The large embroidered, sew-on grade insignia is goldenlite in color, shaped like an inverted chevron at the bottom, with an eagle device in the center. The insignia has a background of Army green, blue, or white cloth, 2 7⁄8 inches wide, which provides a 1⁄8-inch edging around the entire insignia (see fig 28-59).

(2) Small insignia. The small embroidered, sew-on grade insignia is goldenlite, shaped like an inverted chevron at the bottom, with an eagle device in the center. The insignia has a background of Army green, blue, or white cloth, 2 1⁄2 inches wide, which provides a 1⁄8-inch edging around the entire insignia (see fig 28-59).

Note. The old "female" size insignia is no longer authorized for wear."

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction, atb.
