November 26, 1940

 

Work begins on a Jewish ghetto in Warsaw where the Germans intend to herd the Jewish population. The Germans describe the move as a “health measure”.

General Rommel arrives in Tripoli. On the 14th, the first units of what will become the Africa Korps begin to land.

In the Battle of the Atlantic, U.99 and U.100 are sunk in a convoy battle. This makes three leading U-boat captains killed or captured in March - Prien, Kretschmer and Schepke.

Italian and German forces attack Tobruk in North Africa, but are beaten off by the Australians and British.

Rudolf Hess, second in line as heir to Hitler, flies to Britain on a bizarre peace mission.

The British battle-cruiser Hood is sunk after an engagement with the Bismark and Prinz Eugen. Only 3 of 1416 crew members survive.

 

On May 27, the Bismark is finished off by British naval forces including the Rodney, King George V, Dorsetshire and Norfolk.

It has been over a month since I have updated. During this time, relations between the US and Japan have been strained, the Germans have continued their advance on the eastern front, the U-boat fleet has had moderate success and after reorganization Rommel has command of two panzer divisions and one infantry division in North Africa.

 

Sept 1, 1941

 

The attacking German forces are now within artillery range of Leningrad.

Sept 12, 1941

 

Guderian's and Kleist's forces link up near Kiev, cutting off a huge Soviet force of at least 600,000 men.

 

The first snowfall on the Eastern Front is reported.

Sept 19, 1941

 

Kiev finally falls to the Germans after more than 40 days of fighting. Soviet losses in the battle are estimated at over 500,000 men, the Germans have lost about 100,000.
