Here's a couple of nice USO items from Hawaii during the War years. The pin on the top is sterling silver and enamel and is in the shape of Oahu, the main island of the group where Honolulu, Pearl Harbor, Schofield Barracks etc. are located. The plastic covered paper pin-on card show an Island girl with a hibiscus flower in her hair.

"Hui Menehune" and "Flying Squadron" were groups of young women organized by the USO to dance with servicemen at various service clubs on Oahu.

Hi All,

The USO is overlooked in my opinion.

They did and still do great work, for little notice. I have a couple of pieces, but you don't see it.

I know that I used them when I was in, thery are great!

Terry

Thanks Wailuna! I had no idea other than the obvious Island connection of these items. You are a fountain of information. Thankyou! These women really did their part during the War to help out. Jon.
