Funny I own this helmet and I am in the 320th.... nice! Wondered what those D's meant.

 Very Nice LIds!! I especially like your 188th Airborne Infantry-something about that bugle. Thanks for the pics-did you snatch that off ebay? These are underappreciated postwar, painted helmets that will make a nice collection all by themselves! I look forward to when the helmet identification chart finished. That will be an invaluable resource! jpstout

With the exception of the 508th lid all the other Helmets came local from the surrounding area near Fort Campbell.

After doing some extra hours on the LIFE online gallery i found a couple of interesting helmet markings on the 11th(187th)

Pictures are from 1950 and 1951 under general Bowen command.

Hi Mike,

If you don't mind, I'll use your color chart to get started:

N°1: couldn't find in the 1955 yearbooks, ID????

N°2:idem...

N°3:3rd Bn/187th Airborne Infantry, definitely confirmed for th 187th ARCT.

N°4:511th Airborne Infantry

N°5: could be for the 511th Signals

N°6: unidentified arty unit

N°7: ????

N°8:11th QM Parachute Maintenance Co

N°9:188th Airborne Infantry

Hello,

Does it mean that -- according to this system -- the helmet from below KW era pic belongs to the 2nd Bn/187th RCT?

Regards

Greg

Heres a few more unidentified tac marks found in early 11th AB 50s era (50-52) yearbooks...three dark painted horizontal lines seen on the paratrooper's helmet with mountain lion mascot and the machinegunner seems to have a white circle like the 503rd with two or three horizontal lines through circle, very hard to see in photo but more clear when looking at the yearbook in hand.... ...mike
