patches Posted August 12, 2022 Share #156 Posted August 12, 2022 Since this topic gets a ton of views I thought I ask this on this 11th Airborne Division 1950s GI. His name is Robert Clark, served nearly the whole 9 Yards, 27 years started out in the 11th Abn Div, but, he is not Jump Qualified, never was in his long time in. In the 511th Airborne Infantry, around 1954 at Campbell, see no Parachute Badge, but has all the rest of the insignia, 511th DIs PUC, Paraglider cap patch, and the Blue of a trained Infantryman. And as a Drill Sergeant in the late 60s at one of those posts under 3rd Army that gave Basic, Bragg, Benning, Jackson, Gordon, Campbell, see, no Cloth Parachute Badge under that CIB, he was in the 25th Infantry Division there in Vietnam. So would the 11th Abn Div have non jumpers, and were 11Bs???

I can only venture an opinion but here goes: though a qualified 11B, maybe he was performing admin functions within the division, which didn't necessitate being Airborne-qualified. Working an S-shop, a commander/SNCO driver, etc. A less entertaining theory is that after arrival to the unit, he went to Airborne School but at some point afterwards, had his jump wings revoked. Thanks for the input, as to being revoked, I don't know is that something new? Did see this below, in it says promotions are affected, but this guy served 27 years and retired as an E-8 Master Sergeant, not exactly someone who was a Foul Ball. https://www.armytimes.com/news/your-army/2015/01/18/your-awards-and-badges-can-be-revoked-for-misconduct/

I have zero proof to indicate that this is the case, just offering it as an alternative hypothesis. The Army was different then but one thing that has been consistent is that you can have your wings rescinded and jump status terminated if you're a jump refusal. I have seen it happen, but it's an incredibly rare occurrence. EDIT: I have seen several men lose their Special Foces tabs for various reasons related to misconduct, usually alcohol or money related. Only saw jump wings revoked once. A friend of mine told me that SEALs get their tridents revoked far more often than you think. IIRC, a Ranger tab can only be revoked for showing cowardice in combat. Rakkasan187 Posted July 8, 2023 Share #164 Posted July 8, 2023 I found these photos in the Fort Bliss Museum Photo Archives while conducting unrelated research. Some good images of the 11th Airborne's 88th Anti-Aircraft Battalion uniforms and TAC marked helmets. They just completed a jump into Dona Ana at Ft Bliss. Near his retirement as a ROTC Head, at Morehead State University Kentucky, Interesting portrait in two points, one the wear of TRADOC as an Organizational patch, would of thought Army patches were worn, IE 5th Army, 3r Army etc, and that there were E-9 Slots at ROTC, generally thought the highest grade was that of an E-8 Maser Sergeant.
